PostHeaderIcon Are You Defining Your Social Media Policies?

If you are considering entering the social media arena or have just begun, one of your major challenges is to define your companies social media policies.  This means what’s acceptable or not acceptable to your company and what you will and will not post.  This can require some planning on your part before you begin.

Even if you are seasoned in your social media program, time and experience will also present the need for changes down the  road.

Mashable’s Pete Cashmore’s recent post Social Media Policies from 80+ Organizations references some very good links to posts regarding social media policies and do’s and don’ts.

Read and then see if you need to RE-define your social media policies.

PostHeaderIcon Just Being Thankful

Good morning everyone!  Today, I just wanted to do a “Being Thankful” blog post.  It seems there are quite a few people I know, who are going through some very tough situations in their lives right now.

There are those who have lost their jobs, those who have sickness within the family, and those who are sick themselves.

It’s so easy for us to complain about what seems major to us, but when we see what our loved ones and neighbors are going through, we realize…our problem is very minor.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in self, and not be looking at what’s going on around us.  I’m so guilty of that.  But then something  happens or someone says something and you realize someone may need your help.  I’m not talking about financial help…if you have that to help with, that’s great, but what I’m talking about is, your support.

So many times if we can just be there to listen…let me repeat that…to listen, it would mean so much.  We all could use someone to listen to what’s going on.  Even if you don’t have the answer, as a matter of fact, the person you are listening to probably isn’t wanting an answer…they just need someone to listen.

I’m so thankful I woke up this morning.  I’m thankful I was able to get out of the bed and move around.  I’m thankful  I do have a job to go to.   I’m thankful for my wonderful, loving family.  I’m thankful for great co-workers…are you getting the picture here?  Think about it…really think about it.  Start a list of what you are thankful for…you woke up today didn’t you?

So, my challenge to you today:  Who around you is having a tough time…could you just offer to listen to them today.  It will be a blessing to them to have you listen, but the bigger blessing is to YOU…for taking the time to listen.

PostHeaderIcon Social Media and Copywriting: The Best of Both Worlds!

Social Media as we know is a very hot buzz word.   As a result key social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have grown by leaps and bounds.  Blogging is growing at a phenomenal rate and social media marketing services have  exploded on the Internet marketing scene!

Social news sites such as Digg and Propeller, social bookmarking sites Delicious and StumbleUpon, video marketing sites like You Tube, article distribution sites such as Ezine Articles, RSS Feeds, and social content sharing sites like Squidoo, Scribd, and Hubpages have burst on the scene becoming social media distribution points.

But with all these new sites with their added bells and whistles there is one common thread…they all must have some form of written content, even videos use scripts.  From the short 140 characters on Twitter to the in-depth information contained in search engines, it all begins with content.

On the Internet, content is king and always will be because  the vast majority of people use the Internet searching for information and the Internet is the information superhighway.

But if content is king, then surely social media is queen with all the social media marketing points for mass distribution of content.

Enter the copywriter: One who writes copy (content).  But not just any content, it must be…value related/written content.

Value written content builds creditability and trust, establishes you as a thought leader in your field of expertise, and is the basis for building profitable relationships by showing you care…IF it’s seen.

Value written content reaches your target market, speaks the language of your audience, provides a solution to their  ”pain”, and brings them back again and again…IF it’s seen.

Social media marketing takes your value written content and using the social media sites positions your content for mass distribution increasing your Online visibility…getting it seen.

In the past, copywriters created the content, but once passed on to the client, visibility depended on their website being found and/or using a mailing or subscriber list, their direct market print material being seen.

With the onset of social media, it’s offered copywriters a perfect turnkey solution for their clients.  By creating a targeted content and social media marketing strategy  and action plan,  a copywriter / social media marketing specialist not only writes the relevant content, but as mentioned before, uses the social media sites to position your content for mass distribution increasing your Online visibility and providing increased traffic.

For your next project start out with an advantage.  Work with a copywriter that has the marketing skills to do both…Social Media and Copywriting:  The Best of Both Worlds!

PostHeaderIcon Social Media Outlet: Your Email

We are all hearing  the buzz about social media and social media marketing with the mentioning of all the social media sites to be set up and be listed with.  However, you are already set up on one social media site and it’s closer than you think…your email!

For quite a while, email has been used for marketing purposes.  It’s quick, targeted, and postage free!  But with the onset of social media, there’s  the discussion topic by some marketers, that social media will kill email and that email marketing is dead.

John Jantsch with Duct Tape Marketing makes a very interesting point on  how email and social media can actually compliment each other in his post How Social Is Your Email?

John mentions a couple of ways to bring your email into the Web 2.0 arena.  What about you, can you think of a way your email can be more…social?
